Serge THIBAULT

I was born in the middle of the twentieth century, in Le Mans. After 1968, I lived with Dominique (Rusaouën) several beautiful years in Lyon. After more than twenty years spent in Tours, along the Loire river, we live again in Lyon. We have two sons, Edgar and Matthieu. I think we are very close.

My maternal grandfather gave me his liking for mechanics. I have my maternal grandparents to thank for the Chartres cathedral. When I was a young teenager, my mother gave me her box of paint tubes. Maybe my destiny is all in these two gifts, mechanics and painting. I owe nothing to my father, except to be here; he left to live in other arms when I was only a small child.

After the years of 1968, I didn’t follow my friend J.P. to a School of Fine Arts. I went to study at the National Institute of Applied Sciences of Lyon, with my box of paint tubes. During the seventies, I met  sciences of complexity for which things coexist with their opposite; I did not get out.

Journeys, near and far, a thousand of encounters. My friends to whom I owe a good part of my life, famous creators who moved me, the painters of Lascaux, J. Hendrix, J. Coltrane, Le Corbusier, B. Parmegiani, P. Cézanne, P. Picasso, G. Braque, A. Schoenberg, A. Tapies, F. Bacon , P. Boulez, K. Appel, C. Twombly, O. Coleman, F. Bayle, J. M. Basquiat, A. Berg, A. Jorn, L. Konitz, and many others, less known, artists, researchers, mathematicians, geographers, all close.

I like music, painting, urbanism, architecture, mathematics, city, countryside, landscape. I always love biking, as a breakaway into space and time.
I liked teaching at the University. I liked my job as a scientific researcher in city sciences.  Project, living theory, pretopology and morphology of inhabited spaces were my last domains of research.

I paint since the beginning of my adolescence.
